You Know What Hurts?

12 November 2008, 08.00 | Posted in Uncategorized | 1,180 comments »

When a show opens in New York and I am in Montana. That hurts, although i’ll get there before the show closes. For all you cats in New York, go see the Eggleston show at the Whitney. I just finished checking out the website. Watched the video and thumbed through all my Eggleston books. Then I started thinking about Alec Soth. You probably know him. Perhaps influenced by Bill.  Interesting fact on Soth, he doesn’t want to be known as the 8X10 guy. Wish I had an 8X10 in my quiver. Anyhow take a scroll. These images came from the epic project Sleeping by the Mississippi

RIP Miriam Makeba

One of the best things I have ever seen was Ladysmith Black Mambazo / Miriam Makeba / Hugh Masekela / Paul Simon at Radio City for the Graceland tour. Miriam will leave an enormous void in music.

I enjoy what they are doing. I really dig it. I like the Continental project immensely. I think the boys are coming to ride with me this summer, Montana style. Should be fun. A friend just sent me an image of this little nugget. Wish it wasn’t made in China. I think they need to hang out with the guys from Albam a little more.

*2 demerits for the white socks brothers.

and the last person I would like to see interviewed is…

3. Ted Meuhling. How he sees things and translates that into product is so incredibly inspirational. The way he incorporates natural shapes, references and historic forms into his designs make them classic and very modern at the same time. Ted was the first designer to set up shop on the now uber-hip strip on Howard Street in New York. I have bought numerous pieces of his for my wife and also have his candle sticks. Oxidized bronze. Next level.

He has just come out with a book with Rizzoli. Should be interesting.

Thanks Mister Williams for planting the seed. Can’t wait to see who you interview.

Live in LA but their hearts and heads are in Montana. Peep their blog. It’s tight. Adria is not a wrestler nor in the picture.

…you would want to see interviewed continued.

2. Adam Kimmel. Just viewed his spring summer collection. I really like the way he sees things. (a reoccurring theme in the list here) I also love the fact that he was a trained architect but is now a fashion designer. His claremont project with Ari was fantastic. Happened about 2 months ago so i’m sure most have seen this. worth viewing again for sure.

…you would want to see interviewed. Can be anyone, art, industrial designer, fashion, interiors etc.”  A friend just posed this question to me. Wow, that’s a tough one. I could think on this one for months. Off the top of my head it went a little something like this.

1. Gerhard Richter. His show at the old MoMa was for sure one of the best things I have ever seen. Here are a couple of my favorite pieces.

stay tuned…
