Art Los Angeles

29 January 2010, 19.52 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Last night Carla and I went to the opening of the Art Los Angeles art fair taking place at the huge Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. It was pretty good to walk around and check out some art. It’s going until Sunday. The best thing I saw was the Arkitip ad in the guide book. It was done by Kevin Lyons.

A Generic XMAS

19 December 2009, 00.17 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Last night we had a small impromptu XMAS party at our office. It last minute but was a blast. Little Dom’s ran up and down the stairs bringing us food and Silver Lake Wine provided the refreshments.

Lance Dawes Blog

I was just scrolling through my old friend Ian Ginoza’s blog on Hypebeast and came across a post on Lance Dawes’ blog . Lance is the founder of Slap Magazine and an amazing photographer. It’s definitely one of the better photo blogs out there. I pulled one photo out of my friend Pepe Martinez who he shot for a Venture Truck ad campaign. Pepe lived with my best mate Mikey unfortunately both left us before their time but let me tell you SF was crazy with those two, Gerardemy and Ian running around town.

The Generic Studio

24 October 2009, 00.02 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

GNRC Design moved into a new studio this week in Los Feliz atop our favorite hangout Little Dom’s. We are up and working but have set a timeframe of our Xmas party in December to have the studio completed. I will post follow ups as it takes shape but for now this is where we’re at with it. At least it’s in working order for us.

Korean Buddhist Temple

A couple of days ago our brand manager at our factory, MJ, took me to the old capitol of Korea. It was the capitol about 1K years ago. We went to a museum and a beautiful functioning Buddhist Temple. It was really amazing.

Original Burton

20 September 2009, 03.05 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

I’ve been working in Asia for the past 3 weeks, in visiting a factory I came across the original Burton snowboard boot, it had been produced there. This is significant for me, because when I started snowboarding in Tahoe in 1986 there was no board specific gear. The first season we ever snowboarded there was only two places in Tahoe that you could ride Donner Ski Ranch and Boreal. At Boreal you actually had to go through a certification test to go any higher then the bunny slopes. My best friend skated for Sessions so Joel loaned us a couple of Sims boards and told us to wear wet suits under our clothes to stay dry and duct tape our Sorrel’s. The first day we rode at Donner it was dumping with 2 feet of powder but fun as hell. We rode all season like that. About a year later Pete came over my house excited with a box in his hand containing the first snowboard boots we had ever seen, Burton. It changed our teenaged lives.

Hamish Bowles On The Sartorialist

About a year ago I got an e-mail from Cameron Silver saying he went to an event with Hamish Bowles wearing a pair of our shoes and that he loved them and wondered if we could connect him with a pair. Seeing Cameron has supported Generic Man since day one and every day since then, I of course obliged. Then Adam from 21arrondissement sent this over today, Hamish Bowles on a Sartorialist post wearing the pair of the Azzurro Tuxmans. He looks great in them and I’m glad he’s putting them to good use.
