Last Sunday Carla and I quietly went out to the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs and got married in the desert. It was a perfect experience for us and everything was beautiful.

One thing I have to say, is how amazing the Ace Hotel is. We have been twice now and the people, the food, the design, everything about the hotel is perfect. It really is that comfortable home away from home,  hotel that everyone is looking for. I can’t say enough good things about it. I really recommend anyone in S. Cal or visiting LA should take the time to go out to the Ace for a couple of days. You will be very happy that you did. [more photos of the Ace]

So here’s story #1 from the Ace Hotel weekend.

When you do a product you always wait for when you see somebody randomly wearing your product. In our case, our shoes.

So here’s my story with my first Generic Surplus sighting. Evan Hecox did all the art for the rooms at the new Ace Hotel in conjunction with Arkitip Magazine. When I awoke Saturday and came out to the pool to have breakfast with everyone Evan had just arrived from Denver wearing a pair of grey Generic Surplus boat shoes. I have never met Evan before and was introduced to him. I of course asked him where he got the shoes, his reply being that he saw them in an Urban Outfitters catalog he received at his house. He liked them so much he actually drove to a mall in Denver and purchased them completely randomly non connected from us. We all had a good chuckle and Damon Way snapped a couple of photos at the pool with him in the shoes.

I’m at the opening of the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs this weekend. It’s amazing!!!!

Steven Alan for The Generic Man

Going through some of Kevin’s photos I found this photo he took back stage in Santa Monica of Gerry Beckley wearing Generic Man Chuckmans.

Gerry is the founder of the band America and still tours 200+ days a year but more importantly he has probably the best collection of men’s sneakers in the world. Not the ‘I got the latest dunk colorway’ collection but the ‘I found those digging through a bin at a swap meet in Australia in 1972′ collection. And he has hundreds of pairs. We have been very lucky that he is a dear friend of Generic and we love his passion for shoes.

In addition, Gerry has created a great photo series from years on tour called ‘View from the Hotel’. Which is photos shot out of hotel windows.

Kevin and I are in Korea at our Generic Surplus factory working on the Spring 2010 collection. Our March order for US stores happens to be in production so Kevin snapped a few photos.
