So we survived the first weekend of Coachella and the launch of our Pop-Up store at the Ace Hotel. We arrived Tuesday with Steven Harrington and got to work on the mural and store. We got rained out on Wed so we had to do double duty on Thursday but got everything done and open on Friday. The mural, store, shoe and t-shirts couldn’t have gone better and we all had a great time this weekend.

I wanted to thank Steven Harrington, his team, Dustin Beatty, my staff, Neil Scheild, The Ace crew, Bootsy, Zeke and of course all the bands that came through, Breakbot, Girls, M83, Odd Future, Real Estate, Amon Tobin, We Were Promised Jet Packs, WuLyf and Tune Yards. We’ll be running the store all week and of course weekend 2 of Coachella so come by if you’re in Palm Springs.

Around the office we always joke that my good friend Octavio Olivas is the actual most interesting man in the world. He’s a lawyer, rock climber, spear fisher man, one of the best bartenders I know and most importantly a master ceviche chef. At the end of last year he started a pop-up ceviche restaurant called Ceviche Project which has happened over various east side LA restaurants. This Sunday is another installment at our friends new spot in Silverlake L&E Oyster Bar . I have a feeling this one is shaping up to be the best one. We’re excited to be launching our new Ace Hotel Shoe during Coachella week in Palm Springs. This time around we’ve teamed up with artist Steven Harrington bringing his wacky psychedelic spirit to the project was perfect for the Coachella vibe. To celebrate the launch, we’ll be setting up a pop-up store at the Ace Hotel and Swim Club which will be open the whole week including both weekends. It’s rare for me to travel when it doesn’t involve work but I got to take 4 days last weekend and fly down to Trocones to get a little surfing in. It’s super mello and a great place to get good waves. Here’s some photos of the short trip.

January is becoming the month of Steven Harrington here at Generic Surplus with the release of his desert boot next week. There will be a lot of stuff coming out but I wanted to let everyone know about the launch party at El Chavo in Los Feliz on the 24th.
