A Treasure of Military Images

26 July 2009, 22.18 | Posted in Military, Photography, Uncategorized | 1 comment »

Everyday the U.S. government releases thousands of images from all services via the website Defense Imagery.mil. As far as time wasters go, this is pretty high on my list. The photographs that are coming out of Afghanistan (in the image page search “Afghanistan”) are particularly interesting. Gawker even wrote about them not too long ago. Everything can be downloaded in hi-res to get a super close up view. I really like the military archive of beautiful images like the ones pictured below. So if you are bored and need to kill 10 hours, click on over and take a look.

Adventures in Austin

I spent the better part of a week down in Austin for the South by Southwest music festival. We saw so many bands and ate great Mexican food every day. Some of my photos from the trip are over at Men.Style.com. Check them out here.

Island of the Women

That’s the name of the place, a small island off the coast of Mexico called Isla Mujeres. My best friend Rob and I got some much needed R&R out there this past week. The sun was shining, the cervezas were cold and the ocean was salty. All-in-all it was a great break from the bump and grind of big city assault-on-your-senses living. Some postcard shots below.

Keep it Hid

The good folks at Bowery Presents (big ups to Mr. Josh Moore) were kind enough to invite me to see Mr. Dan Auerbach at the Music Hall of Williamsburg this past Monday. Mr. Auerbach was masterful on stage — performing songs from his recently released solo record Keep it Hid — with an extensive accompaniment of a base player, guitarist, keyboard guy (that looked like he was time warped in from the seventies) and not one but two drummers. Some photos and video from the night are below.

Entertainment for the ride over to Williamsburg…

On a Mission

02 March 2009, 06.16 | Posted in Food, Uncategorized | 1 comment »

I’m on a mission to drag my sister to every greasy spoon in Westchester and Southern Connecticut. This weekend I tripped up to Larchmont via Metro North to go to the Harbour House Coffee Shop. The service was great, the look and feel was 20th century chic and the food was tasty. My all time favorite spot is the Sugar Bowl in Darien. I dream of living there one day and devoting all Sunday mornings to the Fairfield County institution. Photos from today’s mission below.

Last Week Circa 1960

If anyone ever says to you that style isn’t cyclical, send them this link and then bitch slap them. Pictured below from the LIFE archive (that has become a worse addiction for me then, well, some of my other massive addictions), are two cyclists on Fifth Avenue in NYC circa 1960! If the cars weren’t in the background I would have definitely said that this photo was from this past summer. Pure insanity! Found via Milano Fixed.
